Kuwait- Lawmakers initially endorse transportation authority bill

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The National Assembly (Parliament) unanimously passed, in the first reading on Wednesday, a draft law on establishing a public authority for roads and land transportation. The law would outline the State's vision of a sustainable economic development through the establishment of the authority, as it (the authority) would meet demand on road grids and transportation services in good standards and an appropriate cost. The bill further lays out the principles that should be followed when establishing the authority, as it would handle maintenance of current roads and establishing new ones, in addition to bridges, as well as setting up an ambitious and effective strategy to traffic problems. The Government, represented by Minister of Public Works Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim for that matter, stressed that the authority's board must include undersecretaries of service ministries like public works, water and electricity, communications and the public traffic department of the interior ministry. The 30-article bill needs to pass a second reading to become a law.
