(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The University of Niger has praised Qatar Charity's (QC) efforts in the fight against poverty.
This came in a letter from Professor Adam Todo, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, who referred to research carried out by students supported by QC on the issue of poverty and food security in the country.
Todo expressed the college's desire to continue the collaboration, saying results speak for themselves.
"The research by the students was presented with a high degree of objectivity and accuracy and came about as a direct result of facilities and care provided to them by the university and QC. Results clearly showed the value of solutions provided by QC to tackle poverty and problems of food security in rural areas."
Todo praised the research by students of College of Agriculture and Farming to obtain their degree, which he said was facilitated by QC and their interest in poverty and food security.
The students studied QC interventions in the agriculture sector in Niger which came after the signing of an agreement between QC Niger and the college to understand and evaluate the impact of interventions.
They completed the research in the academic year 2012-2013 on 'Analysis of QC's Development Approach - Experience of Ishiganotokane villages in Fellnja'; 'The Practice of irrigational farming as a source for food security'; 'Conditions of women cooperatives working with QC in the Popoa area'; 'The role of women's associations in development: the case of associations working with QC in the Popoa'; 'The contribution of livestock rearing in enhancing the economic status of women: the case of QC's financial support to cooperatives in the villages of Babusaa, Kori and Chowdawa'; and 'Analysis of NGOs' contributions to food security: the case of QC's interventions in the villages of Datiqi and Sorkorootolo'.
QC has recently implemented several projects in Niger, including the delivery of more than 30 homes to the families of people whose homes were destroyed during the floods in several areas of the capital Niamey.
The families were handed the keys of furnished houses in the presence of the secretary-general of the Ministry of Planning, the mayor of Niamey and his deputy.
Prior to the housing project, projects worth QR1.367m were carried out for the benefit of 100,000 poor families and small farmers in the Tawa region.
