Middlesex University unveils book on global tourism


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Middlesex university dubai london?s first and only university campus in the uae has launched a significant new academic work on tourism in the 21st century.

the book entitled “tourism and citizenship: rights freedoms and responsibilities in the global order” was officially launched at the university’s campus at knowledge village dubai and will be published internationally by routledge.

the book was developed and produced jointly by dr marcus l. stephenson associate professor of tourism management at middlesex university dubai and dr raoul v. bianchi principal lecturer in international tourism at the university of east london.

the book was the latest in a series of successful publications by the academics. dr stephenson had published widely on the sociology of tourism and had also conducted extensive tourism-based research in the caribbean middle east tanzania and the uk. dr bianchi had previously published on the political economy of international tourism and has focused on the interaction of politics the economy and civil society within the context of tourism. dr stephenson said: “we are proud of this achievement. i therefore thank middlesex university dubai for its optimum support for research and for encouraging the production of work that attempts to evaluate the dynamic nature of our complex global society within the context of tourism mobility. i think the book is timely and will hopefully provide a critical contribution to the sociology and politics of international tourism through the lens of citizenship”.

the book is considered to be a must read for students and scholars in both the field of tourism studies and the social sciences. importantly the royalties generated by the book are being donated by the authors to the international porter protection group which is a volunteer group set up to support and improve the health and safety of mountain porters working for the trekking industry worldwide.
