Oman- Diplomat to showcase his wood figurines at OSFA

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Omani Society for Fine Arts (OSFA) will host an exhibition of wood figurines by an Indian diplomat from May 12 to 18.

Titled 'Floral-Fauna', the exhibition will be inaugurated by Mohammed Salim Ali al Said, chief of protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Bimal Saigal, Deputy Chief of Mission, Indian Embassy said, ''Art is the power of imagination and exists everywhere. Imagination is an art as a fragment of it paints a picture.''

Saigal said that this unique form of art involves a keen eye and a vivid imagination. ''If people use dry branches for bonfire, an artist uses the same to give a form to his imagination.''

Saigal has mastered this art over the past 25 years and gets his creations lacquered to prevent decay. ''My collection consists of over 75 pieces that I have worked on for the past 25 years. I decided to showcase my work in Oman after visiting many art exhibitions here. I feel the country has many art enthusiasts.''

Saigal said he worked on most of the pieces when he was posted in Pakistan. ''I would look for hidden shapes in overgrown branches pruned by the gardener in the embassy compound. Some of the other works were done during postings in New Delhi and Toronto.

''When I look at entangled branches, I  look for an old man with a beard or a woman dancing  or even an elephant. The instinct is to identify the character and work on it.''

His personal favourite is ‘The Race'. ''It is a piece that shows two humans competing with each other; it's an illustration of the human race. I want young artists in Oman to take a look at my works and draw inspiration.''

The exhibits will be not on sal
