The Book Fair will promote reading habits among students and community members and focuses on reading for knowledge, fun, opportunities and inspiration especially for the younger generation of the nation. The Book Fair, officially inaugurated by H E Dr Hamood Khalfan al Harthy, Undersecretary for Curriculum in the Ministry of Education and, in the presence of Mohammed Essa Zedjali, chairman - MPPH, will showcase a wide variety of books that will help raise a generation equipped with knowledge and information necessary to contribute to Oman's socio-economic development.
On the occasion, Ananth AV, regional director of Lulu Hypermarkets, Oman said, ''One of the challenges facing the children's book industry in the region is the dearth of quality time for readers and of course the availability of the new titles. ''The Lulu Book Fair is an attempt o inculcate the reading habits and develop their literacy skills within an enjoyable environment, broaden their imagination, improve their talents, enhance their creative thinking skills, introduce positive behaviour's and attitudes and enhance team work skills.
It will also offer a platform for the latest Arab and foreign publications to showcase diverse cultures and literacy styles,'' he added. The fair will have everything which a book lover searches for “ be it fiction, arts, philosophy or history, management, fiction, philosophy, classics and lifestyle. Cookery too has got prominence.
Children too need not get disappointed as ample area has been set apart for the books in the children's section', which offers the young much to read during the summer vacation. In order to make the book purchase more enticing Lulu is giving back RO2.5 with every purchase of books worth RO10. Besides the magical world of books there will be a colouring competition for kids, and a special counter will be set up for kids face paint
