(MENAFN - Arab News) The eastern province municipality has closed down 82 restaurants in violation of health and safety regulations and destroyed more than 723 tons of food 4897 liters of drinks. it imposed 345 fines amounting to sr665600.
municipality spokesman muhammad al-sufayaan said that these facilities lacked basic safety measures and used unsuitable utensils to prepare and store food. they paid scarce attention to hygiene and their employees were unqualified for the job.
he said the campaign targeted 2633 facilities in dammam 727 facilities in al-khobar 576 in central dammam 404 in east dammam 750 in west dammam and 185 facilities in dhahran. during the campaign 723 kg of food deemed unfit for human consumption was destroyed.
al-sufayaan said the correction process has been delegated to municipalities to ensure no facility continues these unhealthy practices and all meet basic health and safety regulations.
he said: 'the municipality runs these campaigns regularly with the object of raising the level of hygiene and safety standards in eateries."
the 25-day drive implemented by the eastern province municipality targeted food facilities suspected of violating public health standards.
the drive was one of the most important programs of the municipality with the participation of all the dammam secretariats and the support of the general environment of health directorate.
