(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) There were plenty of smiles as winners of the recent quarterly chef competition at NHI held up their medals. The gold winning team from Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, was delighted with its achievement. The silver winners were from Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa and the bronze winners were from Crowne Plaza Muscat.
The competitions, held every three months at NHI under the auspices of Oman Chefs' Guild, are designed to motivate and generate interest among young chefs in the local hospitality industry. Each team comprise two chefs and a food service person. According to the Oman Chefs' Guild guidelines, one of thehefs must be an Omani.
The teams are given a mystery box' of ingredients, and they are given half an hour to make a three-course menu from its contents, and then three hours to prepare the meal. Guests invited to the classroom restaurant' at NHI to taste the delights (or not) of the competitors' outputs can judge the service while having lunch.
This time, the prize money of RO300 was sponsored by food and retail company Enhance. Hussein Daaboul, business head - franchises and business development, Enhance, said, ''At enhance, we are delighted to support and encourage this kind of activity, and I would like to congratulate all the teams for their efforts.'
