(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Alleging foreign hands behind the smuggling of treasures from the sree padmanabhaswamy temple here kerala opposition leader v.

addressing a janakeeya sadas organised by democratic youth federation of india on sunday achuthanandan said that a probe by the special agency formed to deal with cases pertaining to the security of the nation was required as the smugglers had international connections.

the demand is on the basis of the report of the amicus curiae appointed by supreme court to assist it in the case related to the control of the temple and the subsequent revelations made by c.v. ananda bose former chairman of the expert committee set up by the apex court to supervise the unearthing and preservation of the treasures found in the shrine.

while gopal subramaniam the amicus curiae presented certain evidences to prove pilferage of the valuables from the temple in his report submitted to the court ananda bose said he had found grounds to suspect that the valuables were smuggled out of the country and replaced with fakes.

the veteran communist party of india (marxist) leader has cited these revelations as a strong vindication of his earlier allegation that the valuables were being stolen from the temple.

achuthanandan had also then demanded a high level probe into the acid attack on a temple employee who stopped some people from taking away valuables from the temple and the mysterious death of an auto-rickshaw driver near the temple.

the state government handed over the probe into the acid attack frozen for more than seven years to the crime branch following the amicus curiae report. however it is still silent on the amicus curiae proposal for a further probe into the death of the auto driver whose body was found in the temple pond.

“i was isolated when i raised the allegation. now i am glad that they are backing me” the opposition leader said. achuthanandan has also demanded the eviction of the shiva sena from the temple premises.

he alleged that the state government was not taking action on the amicus curiae report as they were afraid of the royal family which controlled the temple and its wealth before the apex court handed over the control to a five-member committee headed by a district judge.

meanwhile opposition legislator jameela prakasham has suggested utilisation of the treasures for the benefit of the people who had contributed to the temple wealth by way of offers and taxes imposed by the then rulers.

she believes that keeping the treasures in the temple would pose a risk to the lives of the people in the city as robbers may even resort to an external attack to loot the wealth. she therefore wants the wealth to be auctioned and the proceeds used to build infrastructure and help people.
