(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A legal consultant allegedly swindled a client of dh33600 duping him into believing that he was successfully defended in a case at the dubai courts.
according to prosecution records the 25-year-old egyptian consultant falsely claimed that the case against his client a 49-year-old compatriot chef had been closed.
to sustain the deception the “lawyer” allegedly forged a document claiming it was issued by the deira prosecution.
during the investigation the chef said he had met the consultant last year and the younger man had claimed he was a lawyer.
“he introduced himself under a false name and made me issue him a power of attorney” the chef said. “i paid him dh2000 as his fee at first. altogether i paid him dh33600.”
the consultant then brought him a document claiming it was issued by the deira prosecution.
“the document said the case against me was closed” the chef said. “but when i showed it to the dubai courts i learnt that the case had always been open.”
realising the document was forged and he was defrauded the chef filed a complaint at al muraqqabat police station.
his flatmate a 24-year-old jordanian architect said during the investigation that the chef and the consultant had an agreement. the latter was to help the chef with a court case for a sum of money.
the architect also said the consultant once came to their flat with another man and asked for money to finalise the procedures of the case.
“i offered to help to pay” he added. “i gave dh500. a few days later i learnt from my flatmate that the man had disappeared and was not answering his phone. i knew my flatmate had paid them some money but i did not know how much.”
during the investigation the consultant admitted that he had swindled the chef of dh33600.
while he faces charges of fraud forgery and use of forged document in the court of first instance his accomplice is absconding.
