(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Upbeat Al Shamal are eyeing victory against struggling Al Khor as both sides lock horn today in the second round match of Emir Cup, here at the Al Arabi Stadium.
Al Shamal who earned an impressive 4-2 victory over Al Shahaniya in the first round are daring to beat the seasoned campaigners € banking on their recent form and Al Khor's recent string of failures.
"We want to show that we can play against first division teams," Al Shamal's coach Silvio D'Alberto said ahead of the clash.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how the team will play in the second round clash against Al Khor. I want to see the difference in level of performance between first division and second division teams (of Qatar Stars League) as we will be playing in the first division team of QSL next season."
But for the desirable result, D'Alberto's side will have to overcome the possible resilience as Al Khor are also desperate to advance in the tournament. Al Khor coach Laszlo Boloni hoped his side will do well 'to get rid of the bad memories of the season'.
"We have to prove that we can win because we're playing a team that has become a first division club in the upcoming season," said Boloni.
Meanwhile, in other second round matches of the prestigious football extravaganza Muaizer will meet Qatar Sports Club, Shahaniya will face Al Wakrah while Al Rayyan and Al Khartiyat will play for a place in the third round.
The winning teams will join Al Ahli, Umm Salal, Al Rabi and Al Gharaffa in the third round.
The quarter-finals of the tournament will be on May 3.
The last four stage matches will be on May 10, both at Al Sadd Stadium.
The final of the tournament, which brings to close the football season in Qatar, will take place on May 17 at Khalifa Stadium.
