Qatar- El Jaish clinch Qatar Cup


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A determined El Jaish kept their cool in crucial moments to edge Qatar Stars League champions Lekhwiya 4-3 in the penalty shoot-out to clinch the Qatar Cup at the Lekhwiya Stadium here yesterday. Coach Eric Gerets dreams of clinching a double suffer a jolt as Lekhwiya paid the price for missed chances. A 17th minute missed penalty spelt doom and thereafter a miss in the penalty shoot-out shattered their dreams. The teams were deadlocked at one-all at the end of full time play. Lekhwiya dominating possession were rewarded with a penalty in the 17th minute. However, El Jaish keeper Ahmed Abunora guessed right and saved Korean Nam Tae-He kick. Thereafter, in the 34th minute the mercurial Vladimir Weiss opened the scoring for Lekhwiya. Then at the stroke of half time Nilmar of El Jaish was fouled by Mousa Ali, the Congolese striker Kimbo Ekoko stepped up and took the free kick. The ball fizzed into the back of the net as keeper Claude Amin couldn't get a hand to it. In the penalty shoot-out, Ali Sanad of El Jaish scored to spark off celebrations.
