French firms eyeing active role in Expo 2020 projects

the french business council (fbc) of dubai & northern emirates has set up a special contact and coordination desk to help businesses from france seeking to bid for projects in dubai as the emirate gears up for world expo 2020.

claude valle president of the fbc said the french community in the uae had strongly supported dubai expo 2020 bid and the french companies — more than 1000 in the uae — are now ready to offer their expertise to the organisers of expo 2020 to make that event a tremendous success.

“the french business council is the one-stop shop for members who commit to offering their skills to serve the world expo. the fbc also seek to create new business opportunities in both countries and to drive bilateral economic relationships to new horizons” said valle. recently fbc announced an 18 per cent growth in its membership to more than 600 comprising both french and local companies.

he said the french chamber of commerce in dubai which is now the first french business community in the middle east aims to expand its business and membership base this year.

“the main objectives of the fbc is inform its members of the business community about the new opportunities arising in dubai to promote and develop business and commercial relationships between the uae and france to provide business support to the its members and to the french exporters in order to help to set up or increase their business in the uae” said valle.

one of the largest projects among the many currently under way in the uae is the mohammed bin rashid city in dubai that was announced in november 2012 he pointed out.

the uae government will invest around $272 billion in the infrastructure during the five coming years by making the majority of projects available to the private sector through public-private partnerships. important projects of residential touristic and commercial projects are launched in the framework of expo 2020 which will significantly increase opportunities for the french companies based in the uae.

valle said french companies coming with development projects seeking partners or in need of close commercial follow-up or wishing to set up a branch in the uae can refer to fbc which is fully dedicated to answer their needs.

the uae has been for several years one of major trade partners of france. over the past ten years the french exports to the uae had tripled. french exports grew 12.2 per cent in 2013 to 3.9 billion euro. the export from the uae to france recorded 7.3 per cent growth in 2013 compared to 2012.

the uae is also the eighth major petroleum products exporter to france.

valle said in tandem with the growth in bilateral trade and investments the number of french residents as well as tourists to the uae has been growing. lat year the uae received round 20000 french visitors.
