Qatar reduces number of World Cup stadiums to 8

(MENAFN) Qatar has decided to reduce the number of stadiums to be built for the World Cup by a third due to increased costs and delays, Arabian Business reported. It was reported that Qatar has been negotiating with FIFA to cut the number of stadiums it will construct for the event. The organizing committee's senior manager for projects said that Qatar had originally announced that it will build 12 stadiums for the World Cup, but that number was reduced to 8 stadiums. The Gulf nation has allocated over USD200 billion for infrastructure projects for the event, including USD34 billion on a rail and metro system and USD7 billion and USD17 billion on a port and airport, respectively.
