3.8 rise in Internet subscribers in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The number of Internet services subscribers at the end of February 2014 saw an increase of 3.8 per cent reaching 164,757 compared to 158,678 at the end of 2013, according to statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information.

Moreover, subscribers of the fixed phone service stood at 353,953 at the end of February 2014 compared to 351,411 at the end of December 2013, a rise by 0.7 per cent. ‘Subscribers of post-paid fixed phone service in Oman stood at 273,858 at the end of February 2014 compared to 271,400 at the end of 2013.'

Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at 26,010 compared to 25,829 at the end of 2013.

Meanwhile, post-paid and pre-paid GSM service subscribers registered a growth of 0.8 per cent to reach 5.66mn by the end of February 2014 compared to 5.61mn by the end of 2013. The number of subscribers of VoIP service at the end of February 2014 dropped to 4,121 compared to 4,388 during 2013, a decline of 6.1 per cent.

Subscribers of fixed broadband service stood at (160,636) at the end of January 2014 compared to (154,290) at the end of 2013.

The number of subscribers of mobile broadband stood at 2.47mn at the end of February 2014 compared to 2.44mn at the end of 2013.

The number of leased Internet lines subscribers stood at 3,644 at the end of February 2014 compared to 3,647 in 2013.
