China's retail sales up 12 percent in Q1


(MENAFN) China's National Bureau of Statistics said that retail sales in the country increased in the January-March period of this year, Xinhua reported. The NBS said that retail sales during the quarter surged 12 percent from the same period a year ago to reach USD1.01 trillion. Sales in the country's rural areas grew 12.8 percent in the period, outpacing sales in urban areas, which increased 11.8 percent. Consumption spending against China's gross domestic product increased 1.1 percentage points in the first quarter to 64.9 percent.
