(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) ha April 16 - The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (MSCAI) has selected a physician from Sidra Medical and Research Center as recipient of its inaugural Master Fellowship award. Division Chief of Pediatrics and Sidra Cardiovascular Center of Excellence (CCE) Director Dr. Ziyad M. Hijazi is one of the 18 physicians to win the fellowship awarded to SCAI members nominated for outstanding contributions to cardiac endovascular angiography and interventions Sidra said Wednesday. Commenting on the honour Dr Hijazi said "I am humbled to receive this award from a group of professionals I have immense respect for. "The work we do is making a significant difference to patient's lives with the use of new technologies and innovations working towards eliminating the need for open heart surgeries in children and adults with congenital heart disease something I will continue to strive for at Sidra and in Qatar." According to SCAI "An MSCAI sets a moral and ethical example for others strives for excellence in patient care and is committed to the highest professional standards." Set up in 1978 the Society promotes excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through physician education and representation. The SCAI is the largest and only Society representing interventional cardiologists with over 5000 members globally. Dr. Hijazi served as the 31st president of the Society Sidra said.
