Kuwait- Amir thanks ministers and senior officials for 'constructive' summit


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait city march 27 (agencies): his highness the amir sheikh sabah al-ahmad al-jaber al-sabah sent letters of appreciations to senior officials and ministers for their efforts to achieve a successful 25th arab summit which was held on march 25-26. his highness the amir sent letters to: chief of national guard his highness sheikh salem al-ali al-sabah deputy chief of national guard sheikh mishal al-ahmad al-jaber al-sabah his highness the prime minister sheikh jaber mubarak al-hamad al-sabah minister of amiri diwan affairs sheikh nasser sabah al-ahmad al-sabah first deputy prime minister and foreign minister sheikh sabah khaled al-hamad al-sabah.

his highness also sent letters to deputy prime minister and interior minister sheikh mohammad khaled al-hamad al-sabah deputy prime minister and defense minister sheikh khaled al-jarrah al-sabah minister of finance anas al-saleh minister of information and state minister for youth affairs sheikh salman sabah salem al-humoud al-sabah minister of water and electricity and minister of public works abdulaziz al- ibrahim minister of health dr ali al- obaidi minister of communications and minister of state for municipal affairs essa al-kandari minister of state for cabinet affairs chairman of the supreme coordination committee for conferences sheikh mohammad abdullah al-mubarak al-sabah and deputy minister of amiri diwan affairs sheikh ali jarrah al-sabah.

meanwhile minister of information and minister of state for youth affairs sheikh salman al-sabah on wednesday praised the efforts made by local and regional media people while covering the just-ended 25th arab summit. 'the media play a supportive role in ensuring the success of a historic event such as the summit and conveying the true picture to the public he said this evening. the minister made the comments during his separate meetings with the media people mohmmad ghabris bassam fleihan antoin nofal george samaan ghassan sharbal and hoda al-husseini and deputy chief editor of the egyptian al-ahram daily newspaper mohammad abdulhadi chief editor of jordan's al-dostour daily mohammad al-tal and chairman of the iraqi journalist association mo'ayed allami.

the meetings discussed a range of issues mainly the ways to enhance cooperation between the kuwaiti ministry of information and the arab press organizations. in the meantime his highness the amir sheikh sabah al-ahmad al- jaber al-sabah has received a cable of gratitude from qatari amir sheikh tamim bin hamad bin khalifa al- thani for warm hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation during the 25th arab summit. the qatari amir in his cable expressed deep gratitude to his highness the amir praising his efforts that ensured success of this summit which concluded with positive outcomes. he wished his highness the amir sheikh sabah ever-lasting wellbeing and hoped kuwait would witness further progress and prosperity under his highness' sagacious leadership.

sheikh tamim said in his cable 'i am pleased while departing along with my delegation my second country kuwait to express to your highness my deepest appreciation for the good reception and hospitality accorded to us during our participation in the 25th session of the arab summit conference. 'i am also pleased to laud your valuable and appreciated effort for ensuring success of the summit for sake of reaching positive and constructive results that will by allah's will contribute to bolstering arab solidarity and realize aspirations and hopes of our brotherly peoples.' his highness the amir sheikh sabah al- ahmad reciprocated to sheikh tamim's cable expressing gratitude for his sincere sentiments and hopes praising his effective participation in the summit that was crowned by his almighty's might with success and constructive resolutions for cementing arab solidarity and realizing aspirations of the arab states and peoples.

moreover his highness sheikh sabah al-ahmad wished sheikh tamim ever-lasting well-being and wished sisterly qatar and its generous people further progress and prosperity 'under his highness' wise leadership.' his highness the amir sheikh sabah al-ahmad al-jaber al-sabah received on thursday a cable from egyptian president adli mansour thanking his kuwaiti hosts for their warm reception during the president's stay in kuwait to attend the just-finished arab summit. his highness the amir sent a reply cable to president mansour thanking him for his attending the summit and wishing the best for him and for the egyptian people.

meanwhile the arab summit that ended wednesday exposed cracks in what was once solid arab support for syrian rebels with saudi arabia and qatar divided over which factions to back and syria's neighbors increasingly expressing fatigue with the flood of refugees from the country's civil war. the syrian opposition used the twoday gathering in kuwait to plead for its allies to unite in helping it at a time when assad's forces have made gains on the ground and prospects for a negotiated settlement of the threeyear- conflict have become remote. in an emotional address syrian opposition leader ahmad al-jarba appealed for heavier weapons to be supplied to the rebels asking arab leaders to pressure the international community to do so.
