The abu dhabi education council is organising a teacher training in teaching the 6+1 writing traits and reading comprehension strategies as part of the abu dhabi reads events.
The training will be attended by over 600 kg cycle 1 and grade 6 arabic and english heads of faculties and coordinators. the planned training will take place over a two-week period from april 13 to 24.
The training will be held in all three regions of abu dhabi al ain and al gharbia and is one of many activities planned for the abu dhabi reads initiative. world-renowned teacher trainer and author dr ruth culham will be presenting the 6+1 writing traits training.
Culham is author of the book 6 + 1 traits of writing. she is a pioneering researcher in the field of teaching writing. the 6+1 writing traits training will focus on helping teachers support students learn writing in both arabic and english.
The training is designed around providing trainees with strategies and skills that will facilitate the teaching of ideas organisation voice word choice sentence fluency conventions and presentation which are the main seven traits of good writing. participants will be engaged in a number of hands-on activities that will include analysing students’ writing samples applying the 6+1 writing traits in classroom situations and scoring different writing texts. further dr ruth will hold a train-the-trainer session with a number of the arabic heads of ffaculty to become trainers of the 6+1 writing traits in the future.
The reading comprehension strategies training will be held by one of the world’s leading literacy researcher writer speaker and trainer dr alison davis. dr davis is a very active researcher in the field of teaching reading comprehension strategies.
