UAE- Etisalat deploys 300Mbps LTE Advanced Technology

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The telecom major is also the first to partner with alcatel lucent to use the technology globally on 1800 mhz and 800 mhz bands

Etisalat the leading telecom operator in uae has tested and deployed the futuristic 300 mbps lte advanced technology (lte-a) for the first time in the region.

The telecom major is also the first to partner with alcatel lucent to use the technology globally on 1800 mhz and 800 mhz bands. lte advanced technology is built on the carrier aggregation technique which is the next step in the evolution of high-speed mobile broadband services allowing operators to make the most of their existing spectrum assets by combining multiple spectrum bands to enable higher mobile broadband download speeds.

Etisalat made the first lte-a call thanks to the full-fledged support of the uae’s telecom regulatory authority (tra) to use the technology with 40mhz band carriers. the call was based on carrier aggregation technology at 1800mhz and 800mhz spectrum bands applied on a commercial network. the live demo of an lte-a call was conducted where etisalat transferred data across its live network on various sites across abu dhabi carrying commercial traffic.

Saeed al zarouni senior vice- president of business planning and technology evolution said: “advanced technologies adopted by etisalat have set a benchmark for other companies to follow by increasing mobile broadband speeds and enhancing customer experience. the capacity higher data speeds and efficiencies provided by lte-a will help manage growth in data traffic as more customers choose our network.”

He added: “today more than 40 per cent of smart phone devices support lte technology and we will continue to provide our valued customers with the highest standards of quality of service and astronomical speeds. as part of our network expansion initiative huge investments have been made into fibre optic networks connecting 4g lte base stations. etisalat is currently in the process of introducing additional stations allocated to cover main roads building airports and shopping centres. by the end of 2014 the 4g lte network will comprise 4000 base stations.”

Mobile broadband has gained relevance over the past year with the demand for higher competitively priced data bundles increasing among users. at etisalat mobile internet users reached 2.7 million with investments made to improve the delivery of mobile data.
