Qatar- Trade surplus hits QR35bn in Feb, up 2.2 pc


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar's foreign trade surplus reached QR35bn in February 2014, up 2.2 percent compared to same month last year



In February 2014, total exports of goods, including exports of domestic origin and re-exports, amounted to QR43.3bn, registering an increase of 2.6 percent compared to the total export value of the corresponding month of 2013, revealed preliminary figures released yesterday by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics



The imports of January 2014 amounted to 8.3 billion, an increase of 4.5 percent over the value recorded in the same month last year



The year on year rise in total exports was due to higher exports of Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons reaching QR30.1bn in February 2014, an increase of 8.9 percent compared to February 2013, and petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (not crude) dropped to reach QR1.5bn (13 percent). However, the increase was partially offset by the drop in exports of petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals (crude) to reach QR6.5bn (11.5 percent)



The major countries of destination for Qatar's exports in February were Japan with QR12.7bn, a share of 29 percent of total exports, South Korea with QR10.4bn (24 percent) and India with QR5.4bn (12 percent)



Motor cars and other passenger vehicles was at the top of the imported group of commodities, with QR0.6bn, showing a decrease of 16 percent compared to February 2013, followed by Aircraft spare parts with QR0.5 bn, increased by 12.6 percent and Telephone sets with QR0.2bn, increased by 19.5 percent. US was the leading country of origin with QR0.9bn, a share of 11 percent of the imports
