Reunited after a gap of eight months an arab woman and her 8-year-old daughter flashed smiles of gratitude and could not stop shedding tears of joy at the human rights department of the dubai police. the woman did not let go of her daughter even for a moment as they were being transported to the airport where a plane was waiting to take them home.

According to details revealed to khaleej times by major shahin al mazmi director of the women and child protection department the brother of the woman’s ex-husband had reportedly ‘kidnapped’ the child when she was living in turkey. after being told that her daughter was living in egypt with her ex-husband the woman went there and sought help from the egyptian police who told her that her daughter did not enter the country.

As she continued her search she came to know that her daughter was living in the uae. she came to the country but was not allowed to enter as she did not have a valid visa. she did not leave the dubai international airport and requested officials to help her find her daughter.

“the woman and child protection department contacted various authorities and learnt that her husband was living in ras al khaimah. within three hours the woman was given permission to enter the country. she was taken to the dubai foundation for women and children where the police summoned the girl her father and her uncle” major shahin said.

Both parties were put in separate rooms and were not informed about each other’s presence.

On being questioned the girl’s father said she was living with him ever since his brother brought her from turkey eight months ago. he clarified that the girl was not kidnapped but brought to the country after obtaining permission from her mother. he said he loved his daughter very much and could not bear the thought of sending her back to turkey.

“the girl often called out for her mother” he told the police.

Major shahin said the father did not refuse to send the girl back with her mother but put a condition that the kidnapping case against him and his brother be dropped. the father also requested that he be allowed to call and visit his daughter occasionally to which the mother agreed.

Happy endings do exist after all!
