More Than 459,000 Russian Tourists Visited Sharjah in 2013


(MENAFNEditorial) After the immense success at the ITB Berlin (International Tourism Bourse) earlier this month, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has announced its 15th year of participation in the Moscow International Travel and Tourism (MITT) fair, to be held from March 19 to 22, in order to tap the promising Russian tourist market. MITT Moscow is a key international specialized tourism and travel industry exhibition.



Led by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Sharjah delegation to Moscow includes senior Sharjah government officials and representatives of Sharjah's tourism and hospitality sectors including Sharjah Airport Authority, Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), Air Arabia, Al Hasawi Group Of Hotels, Radisson Blu, Hilton Sharjah, Oceanic Resort and Spa Khorfakkan, Al Khalidiah Tourism, 72 Hotels, Al Ghazal Tours and Copthorne Hotel.



Highlighting the significance of participation in the Moscow exhibition, the SCTDA underscored its keenness to showcase Sharjah in this key exhibition and strategic market that brings together key players from across the vast CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) region, Europe and international markets and generates tourism and economic opportunities and initiatives between various tourism destinations and players.



The Authority has lauded the positive results of Sharjah's participation in the Moscow fair in previous, directly contributing to a significant increase in the number of Russian tourists in the Emirate. Sharjah received more than 459,000 tourists from Russia during Year 2013, registering a remarkable 51% increase over the previous year when Sharjah received more than 305,000 Russian visitors.



The total share of Russian tourists in Sharjah's tourism arrivals for 2013 stood at 23%, which reaffirms the growing presence of Sharjah's tourism product in the Russian market, which has emerged as one of the major tourism exporting markets for the Emirate.



The participation in the Moscow tourism fair comes at a time when Sharjah is all set to unveil its grand celebrations to mark the Emirate's crowning as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014, being inaugurated at Al Majaz Island on March 26 with the Clusters of Light, the largest presentation of its kind by the German Orchestra Babelsberg, celebrating the advent of Islam and its message of peace and humanity.



More than a thousand international cultural, artistic and entertainment events and activities have been lined up by the Emirate to celebrate the honor and its cultural identity besides a number of achievements on various fronts.



The attractive Sharjah stand at the exhibition in the Russian capital will showcase all these activities besides the best of Sharjah's multifaceted tourism and cultural experience. The Heritage Corner will celebrate the Arab and Emirati heritage of the Emirate besides a number of activities for the visitors.



One of the major attractions is the focus on the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 celebrations. A special wing is reserved for meetings and interactions with dignitaries and leaders of the industry. Promotional material and brochures in Russian and English about Sharjah's tourist attractions, culture, heritage and other offerings are available for the visitors.



It is worth mentioning that the Moscow International Travel and Tourism fair each year attracts an array of travel and tourism players, tourism destinations, hotels and resorts and service industry. The exhibition is expected to attract more than 1,800 exhibitors from 198 destinations from around the world and 37,000 visitors besides extensive media coverage from the European and international media.
