Facebook Transaction Reveals 'Scandals'


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The transaction made by Facebook to buy Instant Messaging Program 'WhatsApp' has revealed the scandals of the Kuwaiti telecommunications companies and the size of their losses due to smart phones that connect to the Internet and have the potential to download an instant messaging and calling applications without charge, rendering traditional communication cross lines provided by telecommunications companies that cost money useless, reports Al-Shahed daily



According to sources the three companies operating in Kuwait have lost approximately KD 356 million because most subscribers have now opted for the services of the free access telecommunications of Viber and WhatsApp. Viber at the moment provides services for 250 million users and WhatsApp 450 million around the world



The sources reported Zain receives 1.5 million calls a month, and that customers have reached 2.3 million, while Wataniya clients stand at 1.94 million and Viva has 1.6 million subscribers representing a growth rate of 60 percent. The sources added the companies' losses are increasing in view of the entry of some free technology services made in America and Israel
