Egypt's New Premier to Prioritize Security, Roadmap


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Egyptian prime minister designate Ibrahim Mahlab, who was charged with forming a new cabinet on Tuesday, said his priorities are restoring security and moving forward with the country's transitional roadmap. Interim President Adly Mansour appointed Mahlab as prime minister designate one day after outgoing premier Hazem Beblawy tendered his government's resignation. Mahlab - the housing minister in Beblawy's government - said he hopes to form the new cabinet within three or four days. "The president stressed that the government should be formed quickly", he said. Mahlab emphasized the authorities' desire to win back investment and tourists to the country, which has been hit by a wave of violence and insurgency attacks since the ouster of president Mohammed Morsi in July. The premier-designate promised to provide better public services and living standards, and said he would open dialogue with workers involved in a recent wave of strikes calling for higher wages. But he criticized "making demands that exceed logic" which could "destroy the country
