GWC's Logistics Village to be ready by June

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The fourth phase expansion of Gulf Warehousing Company's (GWC) Logistics Village Qatar will be completed in June 2014, company Chairman Fahad bin Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani announced here on Sunday

Addressing GWC's ordinary annual general assembly, Fahad said the logistics village is the principle vein to be tapped for the future success of the company, and represents the future of logistics services in Qatar

"The original master plan for the logistics village was completed in April 2013, with all the warehouses and services available there fully reserved. The company has begun an additional fourth phase expansion that acts as a complement to the master

plan, and increases the warehousing capacity of the logistics village", he said

The revenues from the transport, contract logistics, and record management departments saw a significant increase due to the signing of several exclusive contracts, as well as the hard work and dedication of the employees to achieve these results, the company said. Meanwhile, it has placed strategic investments in freight forwarding and international moving and relocation departments into the local markets, which the company predicts will work to ensuring a rise in growth for these departments in 2014

The annual general assembly approved the six-point agenda, including the board of directors recommendation to distribute a cash dividend at a rate of QR1.5 per share, for a total of 15 percent of the nominal value of the company's shares distributed

On the growth profile of the company's assets, the chairman noted that the GWC currently has three active projects within its Mesaieed Industrial Area and Ras Laffan sites. These projects are in different stages of implementation and are expected to be completed by mid-2015.

"We are also pursuing other growth opportunities in project logistics, warehousing and also transportation. With the completion of these three projects, our total capacity in terms of warehousing space would increase supporting our operations further and increasing our reach in servicing all of Qatar's industry vectors," he said

The company will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in March 2014. The company that started off with providing only warehousing services has now expanded to the full spectrum of logistics services, which include transport, distribution, contract and third or fourth party logistics, record and asset management services, and international moving and relocation services, Fahad said
