Kuwait win fencing tourney in Qatar


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait's fencing team came first place at the Arab junior and youth fencing tournament held in Qatar by winning eight gold medals, two silver and five bronze. Kuwait's fencing team has made a remarkable achievement in this tight competition among a number of outstanding teams, the team's coach Abdulkareem Al-Shamlan told KUNA here on Sunday. The Kuwaiti team won five out of six gold medals in the sabre individual and team categories, he said, adding that Yousef Al-Shamlan won a gold medal, Bander Al-Shamlan a silver, while the sabre team that included Yousef Al-Shamlan, Bandar Al-Shamlan, Ammar Al-Ammari and Abdullah Eid won the gold medal after defeating the Saudi team with 45-43



Ali Fadhil won the gold medal in the individual category, Hussain Al-Foudary won the bronze, while the floret team, including Fadhil, Al-Foudary, Yousef Al-Rabab and Khaled Abdulkareem won the gold medal after defeating the Qatari team with 45-35, Al-Shamlan added. The team, including Hassan Al-Foudary, Abdulhadi Al-Ajmi, Ali Hassan Mal Allah and Khalifa Al-Attiya won the gold medal in the epee category after beating the Qatari team with 45-43, he said



Head of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Al-Sabah phoned the head of the Kuwaiti delegation Abdullah Al-Waalan and congratulated him on the achievements as the delegation also received congratulatory messages from the Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) Essam Jaafar, he added. Al-Shamlan praised the efforts of the Kuwaiti athletes and technical staff members who worked hard to achieve such positive results with the continuous support of the PAYS



The tournament, organized by Qatar Fencing Federation, concluded on Saturday with the participation of 13 Arab countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Algeria, and Morocco. Kuwait's junior fencing team won three gold medals, two silver and four bronze
