(MENAFNEditorial) The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has partnered with PwC's Academy and developed a foundation specialist course in accounting –the ICAEWAccounting Skills Certificate (ASC)- to be exclusively delivered by PwC in English and Arabic across the Middle East
The ASC has been designed by ICAEW and serves as a platform for other professional qualifications. It is targeted towards a range of participants from young graduates to finance professionals looking to adequately prepare for the demands of the workplace
Commenting on this partnership PwC's Academy Partner Amanda Line said "This foundation certificate is the only one of its kind in the region. Given its availability in Arabic and English, it reinforces our vision of supporting the sustainable growth of talent in the region.
Adding "The prospect of falling oil prices has increased the urgency for diversification in the Middle East. A large working age-population combined with industries that are capital, rather than labour, intensive has left governments with the issue of unemployment and is prompting them to diversify. The local workforce however, is not necessarily equipped with the right skill set to address the challenges of the future. There is also increased competition from emerging economies, where high standards of education and a thirst for continuing professional development have been long established. This means that the pressure is mounting on Middle East countries to keep up and to compete on a global level. The ICAEW Accounting Skills Certificate is great way to help bridge this talent gap and prepare young professionals for the challenges ahead.
According to PwC's 17th Annual Global CEO Survey, 61 per cent of company CEO's in the world found limited availability of talent to be a threat and concern to company growth. And evidence from the World Economic Forum suggests that in this area the Middle East is falling behind: across the GCC as a whole, 14.4% of executives report that the workforce lacks sufficient skills
While the certificate is principally aimed at graduates looking to pursue a career in finance and accounting, the course is also beneficial for finance professionals who don't have financial professional qualifications and for companies looking to upgrade their finance team and enhance their training and skill sets
