(MENAFN) The mobile subscriber base in Saudi Arabia has dropped in two years after the crackdown on illegal workers, the reduction quotas for religious pilgrims and the stricter phone registration requirements, Arabian Business reported
As of September 30, 2013, the number of subscribers dropped to 51 million from two years earlier when it was at 56.1 million, ending a remarkable growth phase in the country
A telecom analyst at HSBC said: "The clampdown on illegal workers will have had some effect on operators' earnings as people leave the country, but it's likely these were among the lower spending customers.
