(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Media Security Department at Ministry of Interior has condemned the accusations that were published in several local newspapers and social media against a traffic officer who was assaulted by a citizen last Saturday in Salmiya area after the latter was stopped for speeding violation
According to a press statement issued by the department, the incident was widely publicized in various social networking websites. However, it was based on the testimony of only the citizen who assaulted the officer, which was false. The department clarified that the offender was the one who assaulted the officer after the latter stopped him for speeding and issued a citation. The department elaborated by saying the patrol team noticed a vehicle being driven at a very high speed of 180 km/hr and pursued it. Even though they ordered the vehicle to stop, the driver refused to do so
However, the driver had to eventually stop and the traffic officer began the necessary procedures that are to be followed in such situations. The driver, a Kuwaiti citizen, was issuing threats while at the same time pleading the officer to not issue him a citation
While the traffic officer was writing the citation, the citizen punched him on the face and broke his nose. The department went on to explain that when the offender was in custody, he had requested to be taken to the hospital for a medical report and his request was granted. The incident was referred to the General Directorate of Oversight and Inspection for investigations while the injured officer filed case 18/2014 against the citizen at Salmiya Police Station in which he reported that he was assaulted and his nose was broken while on duty
Meanwhile, Hussein Al-Shawaf's family denounced the recent assault on their son by several traffic officers of the Ministry of Interior due to a traffic violation committed by their son. The family organized a gathering at Al-Shawwaf Diwaniya where several MPs including Adnan Abdulsamad, Khalil Al-Saleh and Khalil Abul, the manager of the office of Yousef Al- Zalzalah and several attorneys attended the meeting. The family said they will not ignore the violation of the rights of their child, demanding a fair trial. They affirmed that they believe in the litigation rights in a bid to protect the nation and its people as well as to maintain the dignity of the police officer
