News Agency) Oman's population is approaching the 4-million mark, registering 3,957,040 by the end of December 2013. Omanis comprise 56% of the total population with 2,212,693, while 1,744,347 were recorded as expatriates, accounting for 44% of the total population in the Sultanate, (Oman Daily Observer) reported Saturday.
Recent studies by Oman's National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveal that the Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest percentage of expatriates which stood at 61% of the total population of the governorate, while Omanis comprised 39% of the residents. On the other hand, in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate the percentage of Omanis was 77% compared to 23% expatriates. The ratio of the local vs expat population in other prts of the Sultanate varied from these figures. Muscat, Dhofar and Buraimi recorded the highest percentage of expatriate population compared to local population, while the percentage of Omanis is higher in Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Batinah, North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah and Al Wusta governorates.
Meanwhile, the number of Omani births recorded from January to November 2013 stood at 62,181 registering a growth of 1.9%, compared to that during the same period in 2012 when the number of births stood at 61,017. According to the NCSI study, death statistics registered a fall in the Omani population of 12.1%, as the number of registered deaths stood at 5,278 from January to November 2013, compared to 6,007 during the same period in 2012
