H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed EIAST strengthens UAE presence as a leader in global space industry

Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, commended the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) for its successive achievements in the space industry and technological innovation which have contributed to the UAE's pioneering position in the global space industry.



This came during a recent visit by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed to EIAST Headquarters, accompanied by a high-profile delegation including H.E. Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality; H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA; Ahmad Bin Byat, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding, and other senior government officials. The delegates were received by a number of senior executives headed by H.E. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General



The guests attended a demonstration on EIAST's satellite projects and programs relating to space, astronomy, water researches, energy and environment. A team of leading engineers from EIAST further showcased the most important achievements made in 2013, including the successful launch of DubaiSat-2 which has placed the UAE as a prime satellite manufacturer and a global leader in the space industry. The visit also featured a detailed presentation on 'Khalifa Sat', the first 100 per cent Emirati-built satellite scheduled to be launched by 2017.



The delegates next visited the ground station which monitors the work of DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2 in offering higher quality space imagery to cater to environmental projects, urban planning, infrastructure and scientific research in the country.



During the visit, the group discussed the remarkable efforts of EIAST in consolidating the culture of scientific research, technological innovation, and improvement of industry infrastructure and manufacturing facilities. They also appreciated EIAST's efforts to comply with human investment strategies to develop highly competitive and efficient national competencies to raise the bar in the advanced satellite industry and thereby promote Dubai as a world-class leader in the space sector.



H.E. Hamad Obeid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors, EIAST said: "The visit of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the accompanying delegation reaffirm our leaders' strong confidence in EIAST. Al Shaibani expressed his pleasure at the visit of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and the delegation, explaining that it highlights EIAST's leading position as an incubator for technical and scientific innovation. The Institute helps to enhance Dubai's capability to compete among leading research centers in the world, as part of the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to assume a prominent position among the nations of the developed world.

EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 with the goal of promoting a culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, and enhancing technology innovation and scientific skills among UAE Nationals. It is mainly involved in outer space research and development; satellite manufacturing and systems development; space imaging; and ground station services and support for other satellites
