(MENAFNEditorial) The Fazza Championships for Falconry, organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center, enjoyed large crowds over the weekend as falconers and supporters gathered to see competition take place in two categories of Gyr Tebha (younger) Gyr Tebha Farakh (younger), Gyr Tebha Jirnas (General Public), and Gyr Shaheen Jirnas (older)on Friday and Saturday.

These were the latest competitions to be held in the falcon competitions that are being held until mid-January at Al Ruwayya

This year's events are already receiving rave reviews from participants and visitors to the Fazza Championships for Falconry

Falconer Garah Obaid Salem says: "I am competing in the Sheikh's category and have been hunting with my father since I was a child with falcons. I love falconry as it is a part of my national identity and this is the third year that I've been competing. This year, I have to say, the competition is livelier than ever. The organization is great and the amount of coverage on the TV for people to watch the race has been excellent and the organisers are doing everything they can to make sure we are completely looked after."

The event attracts competitors of all ages and junior entrant Saoud Abd El Aziz Sultan says: "Before I started competing I used to cheer on friends and family but now I've been involved in competing for 4 years. This year I'm only competing with one falcon. I really think the competition is very important as it keeps our heritage alive and it makes the market for falcons better as it means each contestant must own a falcon so there is a lot of movement"

First time competitor Abdullah Sarn added: "This is the first year I've ever taken part in one of these competitions, but I have been a supporter for years. The number of contestants has increased over the years and it is going to be hard to beat some of these great falconers. I used to hunt with falcons when I was younger and my grandfather taught me how to hunt with falcons.

Dumaithan bin Swaidian, Head of Fazza Championship for Falconry Committee, said "Great organization has gone into this year's competition and a great number of contestants are taking part in all categories. We have also seen a great amount of support from fans of falconry from the UAE. The finals are expected to be a really great competition in the finals as the level of competition is at a peak with all falcons being trained to the highest degree
