Bahrain subsidies at USD3b per year


(MENAFN) Cost of state-provided subsidies in Bahrain has increased by 73 percent in the last five years to hit USD2.99 billion each year, Arabian Business reported. The country's Deputy Prime Minister said that the huge expenditure trend will remain until measures to reduce them are taken. The government is planning to reduce subsidies for petrol, but said that it have no plans at this time to reduce them for other essential items, regardless of warnings that cheaper prices would lead to other issues.
