(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The UAE is looking forward to strengthening security and stability in the region and to boosting cooperation with Iran for the benefit of their people, the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said on Wednesday.

Welcoming Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif at Al Rawdah Palace, Shaikh Khalifa said that the UAE welcomes the developments witnessed by Iran and the signing of an initial agreement on its peaceful nuclear programme.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also received Mohammed Javad Zarif at Zaabeel Palace in Dubai. The Iranian foreign minister conveyed the greetings of President Hassan Rohani to Shaikh Mohammed.

Shaikh Mohammed received an invitation from Mohammed Javad Zarif to visit Iran and he accepted it.

During his meeting with the Iranian foreign minister, Shaikh Khalifa discussed matters relating to bilateral relations, the GCC-Iranian relations and various developments in the regional and international arenas.

Shaikh Khalifa conveyed his greetings to Iranian President Hassan Rohani, wishing him good health and further progress and prosperity for the Iranian people.

The Iranian minister also conveyed to Shaikh Khalifa the greetings of President Rohani and Iran's appreciation of the UAE's stance towards the initial agreement between Iran and the P51 countries and the United States on its peaceful nuclear programme.

He delivered an invitation from the Iranian president to Shaikh Khalifa to visit Tehran, which he thankfully accepted. The schedule of the visit willbe determined at a later date.

The Iranian minister congratulated the UAE on the country's 42nd National Day and winning bid to host Expo 2020 in Dubai. He wished the UAE and its people further progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of Shaikh Khalifa.

The minister stated that the new Iranian government, headed by Hassan Rohani, is keen to strengthen its relations with the Gulf countries, stressing that Iran attaches great importance to relations with its neighbouring countries, especially the UAE.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region; Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court; Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister; and senior officials.

During the meeting between Shaikh Mohammed and the Iranian foreign minister, the two sides discussed a number of issues of common interest and ways to enhance cooperation and good neighbourly relations between the two countries in order to achieve security and prosperity for the peoples of the region and for world peace.

The talks between Shaikh Mohammed and the Iranian foreign minister also addressed the issue of the recently signed nuclear agreement by Iran.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; other Shaikhs and senior officials also attended the meeting.
