Shell Advanced Technology Successfully Supports Regions Aviation Industry Growth

(MENAFNEditorial) Dubai, UAE, November 17, 2013 – Shell Aviation demonstrated its continued commitment to the region's aviation industry by showcasing its latest innovations in Aviation fuels and lubricants at the 13th edition of the Dubai Airshow held for the first time at Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) this week. Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in co-operation with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports, Dubai World Central and the UAE Armed Forces, the Dubai Airshow is bringing together regional and global Aviation experts, from the private and public sectors, under this year's theme "The World is Coming". The move of the Dubai Airshow to the multi-billion-dollar Dubai World Central (DWC) aerotropolis has been hailed as the opening up of a new growth era in aviation for the region. The capability and capacity of DWC to manage air traffic and deliver products and services at a massive scale makes the airport a true gateway to the wider Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia region, home to a quarter of the world's population. Many of the world's leaders in aviation have already confirmed their presence at the airport. Shell Aviation was one of the early companies to partner with the airport, adding DWC to its global network of around 800 airports in 40 countries around the world and in this region. "In the past year we have continued to witness the growth of the aviation industry in the region. According to IATA the Middle East is expected to experience an average growth of 6.6% in air passenger travel by 2016 and a 4.9% growth in international air freight demand. In the UAE in particular the aviation sector has contributed US$ 22 billion, or 28 per cent to the gross domestic product according to leading global research firm Oxford Economics. Governments in the region are continuing to take a long-term approach to this sector with allocation of large investments towards the development of new and existing airport mega projects. It is an exciting time to be working with our aviation partners across the region. We value long-term partnerships with leading airlines and airports in the region and are committed to supporting the growth of the aviation industry." said Xavier Hery, General Manager for Shell Aviation Middle East and South Africa. Partnering with governments in the region, Shell Aviation is successfully supporting the fuel needs of the Middle East's leading airlines. As regional demand for aviation services increases, Shell remains committed to servicing the industry with world-class technological insight to its aviation fuels and lubricants. Shell Aviation has a dedicated team of aviation scientists at a specialist aviation research facility in the USA. As a company, Shell spends more than $1.3 billion annually in Research & Development across its businesses. As part of its commitment to support the UAE's aviation industry, Shell Aviation is showcasing the last 100 years of Shell Aviation as well as the latest innovations in Aviation fuels and lubricants through displays at their chalet at the airshow. Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to test their skills at taking off and landing a place with a flight simulator. For more information visit Shell Aviations Chalet A47.
