Kuwait- MPs seek special session to vote on bourse bill, 5-year plan

(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee at the Parliament on Sunday finalized discussions on the stock market authority draft bill in the presence of Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad al-Haroun, Committee Chairman Yousef Al-Zalzalah told reporters after the meeting. Praising Haroun's cooperation, Al-Zalzalah said the panel will submit its final report to the Parliament soon to pave the way for the second reading of the bill. He confirmed a number of lawmakers will submit a request to hold a special session on Thursday for the executive and legislative authorities to vote on the stock market authority bill and the KD 37 billion five-year development plan of the government. Meanwhile, lawmaker Ahmed Al-Mutair has presented a proposal on prohibiting the Kuwaiti banking sector from charging interests on loans. "This proposal will lead to the Islamization of Kuwait's financial system," he explained. Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council Shaye' Al-Sahye' described a proposal to break the council into governorates' councils as unconstitutional. Speaking at a news conference, he said Provision 133 of the National Constitution stipulates that the Municipality is an independent department. The governors rejected the proposal, that had been presented by some members of the National Assembly, and urged them to amend the municipal law namely article 14 according to which the cabinet takes a final resolution regarding decisions issued by the council. Meanwhile, the higher committee of planning of the municipality discussed at its first meeting this year — attended by Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr. Fahdel Safar — blueprints for unifying violations of the municiopal laws. The commission discussed plans for unifying designs of municipal buildings. By: Dahlia Kholaif
